the story behind the stitches
hello, i'm ashley. ♡
a little over a year ago, just a few months postpartum, i found myself navigating a pretty difficult season of life. i was struggling mentally, had unexpectedly lost my job after returning from maternity leave, and desperately needed something that felt like my own.
naturally, tiktok convinced me to pick up a needle and thread. (as tiktok tends to do.)
what started as a way to occupy my mind quickly became so much more. embroidery gave me a creative outlet, a little peace in the middle of a difficult season, and eventually, a way to start rebuilding something for myself.
in the beginning, my little business actually went by a completely different name: baked & stitched. and yes, the baked part was literal. i was selling homemade bread alongside a small handful of embroidery designs.
with encouragement from my boyfriend and best friend, i took a chance and opened a facebook page. there was no grand business plan, just a lot of trial and error, a few sales here and there, and the hope that maybe this little creative venture could become something.
as i stitched more, my creativity started taking on a life of its own. i'd become a swiftie during the midnights era, and naturally, my love for taylor swift began finding its way into more and more of my hoops.
i taught myself how to create patterns using canva, eventually learned to draw in procreate, and slowly started developing my own artistic style.
as my embroidery began gaining traction, i made the decision to leave the bread behind and focus entirely on stitching. baked & stitched eventually became the embroidery department, and the rest is still being written.
those first six months weren't exactly a financial success story, but i kept going. somewhere along the way, this little venture had become more than just a way to earn extra income.
it had become my happy place.
over a year later, it still is.
what started with a needle, some thread, and a whole lot of uncertainty has turned into a little corner of the internet where i get to share my creativity with people who appreciate it.
and whether you've been here since the baked & stitched days or you've only just stumbled upon the department, i'm so incredibly grateful you're here.
with love & a needle in hand,
ashley ♡
